The Akunok Floor Screen is part of Abstracta’s innovative Akunok acoustic furniture concept, designed by Maja Ganszyniec. Inspired by the words *acoustic* and *nook*, this design brings a sense of calm and seclusion into open, busy interiors. With overlapping panels, it forms a soft, sculptural presence that subtly evokes Japanese architecture while supporting acoustic clarity.
This twin-panel design not only offers visual separation but also enhances the acoustic environment. The two slightly overlapping screens create a “sound trap” – a space where sound waves get caught and absorbed, reducing echo and helping to create focused zones for work, collaboration, or quiet reflection.
The Akunok Floor Screen features a self-supporting structure without protruding legs, allowing furniture to be placed freely around it. Its frame is crafted from solid pine, and the panels are filled with soft, sound-absorbing material, which is upholstered in high-quality fabric that often features a delicate French seam. Because of the twin-screen layout, it delivers outstanding acoustic performance – the gap between the two panels acts as a natural sound trap that significantly lowers reverberation.
From a design perspective, the product expresses honesty and simplicity, emphasizing natural materials and clean lines. The minimal form gives it a timeless aesthetic, while the acoustic core makes it deeply functional.
The Akunok Floor Screen has external dimensions of **1570 × 1610 × 312 mm**. It uses a solid pine frame, combined with a soft acoustic infill, and fabric upholstery panels. The base is a steel tube that comes in different finish colours, allowing some customization. Additionally, several of the fabric options available carry the EU Ecolabel, reinforcing the product’s commitment to sustainability.
