Planning lounge furniture with plastic bases and purple upholstery
Start with the role of purple in the room. In a reception lounge, a concentrated seating group can establish a recognizable waiting area. In a shared workplace, the same color may distinguish a lounge from nearby work settings. Decide which role matters before distributing purple throughout the space.
The plastic base belongs in that decision because its visibility affects how the color composition meets the floor. Assess the seating from normal standing and seated viewpoints. A base that seems discreet in a close view may become more noticeable across an open room, particularly where the surrounding floor is visually simple.
Judge the Outline as a Whole
Look at the transition from upholstery to base rather than treating the two as separate design decisions. Consider whether the upper body appears visually broad, compact, rounded, or angular, then examine how the base relates to that outline. These are details to verify in the individual piece, not properties implied by plastic.
Compare front, side, and rear views where available. Furniture positioned away from a wall becomes part of the room from several directions. A balanced front view alone does not establish how the group will read beside an entrance or between adjoining zones.
