HAY Crate Chair

HAY Crate Chair

The HAY Crate Chair is a dining chair for people seeking a wood seat with a straightforward, fixed design. Made from lacquered pinewood, it brings the Crate collection’s simple material choice to dining spaces, while fixed armrests distinguish it from a basic armless chair. It has no upholstery or adjustable parts.

Lacquered Pinewood Design

This HAY dining chair is constructed from lacquered pinewood, including its wooden base. That gives buyers a clearly defined material choice when coordinating seating with other wood furnishings. Listed base color options include red, black, white, transparent and wood, so the chair can suit different color schemes without changing its basic material specification.

The chair has no cushion and no upholstery. This matters if you prefer an unupholstered seat rather than a fabric-covered dining chair, and means there is no upholstery material to match with existing textiles. No care or cleaning instructions are provided, so specific maintenance methods should not be assumed.

Fixed Dining Chair Comfort

Fixed armrests provide a place to rest the arms while seated, but their position cannot be adjusted. The seat height and back height are also fixed, and the chair has no seat-depth adjustment, lumbar support or headrest. Choose it when a non-adjustable dining chair suits your needs; it is not designed to offer the fit adjustments found on an ergonomic office chair.

There is no mechanism, so there are no controls or moving adjustments to operate. This keeps the seating configuration simple, while making it important to check that its fixed setup suits the intended user and table. The product data lists a maximum load of 135 kg, which gives a clear reference when assessing whether it meets your seating requirements.

Where the Crate Chair Fits

As a dining chair, the Crate Chair is suited to dining spaces where lacquered pinewood and fixed armrests fit the room and the way people sit. Its listed type is dining, so it is a more appropriate choice for a dining area than a task chair intended for adjustable desk work. The available color choices also make it possible to select a look that relates to the surrounding furnishings.

HAY identifies the chair as circular, and the listed warranty is two years. Those details can help inform a purchase comparison, though the product information does not specify what circularity measures apply. If you want an upholstered seat, adjustable height or built-in lumbar support, those features are not part of this model; if you want a fixed, unupholstered wooden dining chair, its stated configuration is clear.
